Champions League Quarterfinal Preview
This Wednesday the quarter-finals of the Champions League are taking place. Due to COVID-19, this edition will be a single-leg format. Let’s take a look at the quarter-final match-ups and who are the likely favorites to advance to the next round.
RB Leipzig vs. Atlético de Madrid
Atlético de Madrid has had an obsession with winning the Champions League in the last couple of years and unfortunately for “Los Colchoneros” they have come up short in the bigger moments. This matchup represents a big opportunity for Atlético to arrive at the semi-finals of the most prestigious tournament in football.
RB Leipzig is a dangerous team to take lightly. This team finished third in the Bundesliga with a lot of solid performances throughout the year. RB Leipzig could potentially have the biggest upset in the tournament.
Atalanta vs. PSG
PSG are the obvious favorites to advance to the next phase of the tournament. Paris has been preparing for this match with several friendly matches and with outstanding results. PSG will not have Mbappe on the squad for this game because of an injury and this could be a major factor in the result.
Atalanta has been the revelation team of the tournament with great football and most importantly they’ve been consistent on the Champions League and Serie A.
Manchester City vs. Lyon
The team managed by Pep Guardiola is the favorite of this leg and by a wide margin. Manchester City played really well against Real Madrid in the previous round and are major contenders on winning this year’s edition of the Champions League.
Lyon has a major challenge ahead with Manchester City but if they can maintain their consistency as we’ve seen so far, they can pull off a major upset.
Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich
The most interesting game of the quarter-finals will take place between these two strong teams. Bayern Munich is the favorites to advanced to the next round. Bayern has been very good on the offensive side this season.
Barcelona has had a very inconsistent year and this culminated with them losing LaLiga to Real Madrid, but Messi and the rest of the Barcelona squad more than ever want to win this tournament and this could be the motivation they need to advance to the next round.
