Will Tom Brady be the First to Defeat Father Time?
Tom Brady is entering his 21st NFL season. That statistic simply is an achievement by itself. Generally recognized as the NFL’s G.O.A.T, “Psycho Tom” (As Skip Bayless likes to call him) is ultimately having to recognize that an athlete can’t fight father time unendingly. Particularly in the NFL. All who have tested father time, have all lost in their endeavors. Yet, there is only one Tom Brady. And, if anyone could outrun father time, it would be TB12.
NFL free agency starts March 18 and New England Patriot supporters are currently forecasting what will happen to their hero. None of them want to face the actuality that Brady could perform in another uniform. Or do they?
The truth is, Brady is statistically coming off of the worst season of his NFL career. With a QBR rating of 52.5 in his last NFL season, Tom ranked 23rd in the league. Awful by his own standards. But was that due to a cast of bad offensive weapons? Or, Is Brady finally losing the battle against father time?
Brady’s Next NFL Home
Regardless of the argumentation, more than likely the NFL will witness Brady play in a different uniform for the first time in his career. The list of inherent places Tom could land appears to be multiplying by the day. Organizations like the Dallas Cowboys have slyly probed about Brady’s services if they can’t re-sign Dak Prescott. Additional teams like the LA Chargers and soon-to-be Las Vegas Raiders could utilize Tom’s legendary status to catapult them towards success in their following chapter.
One of the more intriguing names to develop into the fold is the San Francisco 49ers, who are coming off a Super Bowl appearance. Here’s what makes the 49ers an intriguing case:
- Current San Francisco QB Jimmy Garoppolo previously sat behind Brady from 2014-2017.
- If Garoppolo were traded to acquire Brady, coach Bill Belichick would have received his ultimate wish in having Jimmy G as Brady’s heir.
- 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan is just 40 years old. Brady will be turning 43 years old, making him older than his implied head coach.
- The 49ers lost the Super Bowl to a Kansas City Chiefs team led by Patrick Mahomes.
- Brady, Mahomes, and Drew Brees are the only QBs in NFL history to throw for 50 TDs in a single season.
Can Brady Defeat Father Time?
With free agency looming, there’s no telling where Brady will settle. But, one thing is for certain; regardless of who wants to accept it, #12 has been on a steady decline for the last three years, although the Patriots record doesn’t show it.
Perhaps that’s what helps aid Brady in looking invulnerable. Still, in his decline, his team obtains colossal success due to a corpulent defense and arguably the most expert coaching of all time. Notwithstanding, all of that will likely end after this upcoming free agency.
That’s when fans will find out, has Tom Brady defeated father time? Or, is he simply his latest victim.
