MMA Astrology: Industrious Vitality May Save Your Favs in Virgo Season
We are now full swing into Virgo Season, digging in and our grounding ourselves back into reality. Durability, ambition, and sense of control are dominating characteristics of this sign, and today that is only increased with the moon in Capricorn. Our emotions can become restrained, but our energy for projects, ideas, and goals is refreshed. The vigor with which we do things at this time is greatly influenced by these heavy earth transits. This is particularly interesting in terms of how it may manifest itself within our fighters as we have a lot of air and fire signs who do not always feel the most beneficial sides of such an earthy chart.
Earth signs being the signs of endurance, persistence, and hard work, this is another night potentially full of underdogs, similar to what we saw last week, and could be a theme until we enter airy Libra Season in September. Of course, this could be my love of a comeback story shadowing my objectivity, but astrology is an art, not a math equation.
Anthony Smith vs Aleksander Rakić
Our Lionheart has returned to us after that agonizing performance where we saw him hand his TEETH to the ref and he kept fighting. As such is befitting considering his nickname, Smith is Leo, and much like a Leo, he is refusing to let that moment define him. In fact, his entire chart is full of fire placements, including his Mars which is in Aries. Coincidentally our transiting Mars is also in Aries, expanding that ability and tendency to dominate over others, to push forward and past. The transiting Mars is also trine his Natal Saturn in Sagittarius, which takes a bit of a different form of hunkering down and getting serious about accomplishing what he’s always trying to.
Lastly to consider is our transiting earthy Moon which is inconjunct his Natal Chiron. Feelings and symbols of suffering, transformation, and healing are brought to the surface, this could be associated in a quite literal sense to his last performance and wanting to overcome that.
Now on the flip side, we have an Aquarius Sun with Rakić, and an overall very air and earth heavy chart. Astrologically between the two Rakić and Smith actually, balance each other out quite well, and it’d be interesting to see if that translates in the ring. Aquarius being a very rebellious, finicky sign, is either affected in a more frustrating way or a complete get it together type fashion during earthy seasons. The transiting Sun is opposing his Natal Moon, allowing for a more conscious awareness of emotional tension, both within himself and of those around him. A Transiting Sun is also sextile his rising Scorpio, giving him positive energy, an ability to explore emotional awareness, and an increase in physical vitality.
The transiting Mercury is trine his Natal Mars in Capricorn, bringing his ego into view, and his goals for the future. Could this be related to a loss and deciding what he wants to do after this? Or is it having to do with a win and where he might go after this?
My Pick: Honestly, I want so badly to pick Anthony Smith. Looking at this chart I see a lot of potential for overcoming obstacles, and for personal transformation, a renewed sense of “I can do this” now that Jon Jones has left the division, but it’s hard to say when Rakić also has a great and very success heavy chart if anything I’d say that this is going to be a better fight than we are maybe expecting, and both parties will likely be affected in the long term by the results of the fight. I love a good underdog though, and so my pick is with our Lionheart.
Robbie Lawler vs Neil Magny
“WARler” is coming off of three losses, two of which are still debated among the fans, but the Colby loss was definitive. I wouldn’t necessarily call Lawler a company man, but seeing him pick a fight like this reminds me of Cerrone and his habit of just accepting every fight presented to him. Now the difference being though is the truth to his nickname Robbie Ruthless Lawler, and I think we might get to see that intensity return to the octagon tonight. The transiting Mars is square his Natal Moon in Capricorn, making him more volatile, and more openly ready to express anger and take action. However with the transiting Jupiter trine his Natal Chiron we see his philosophical framework undergo a re-examination and a new outlook. If he did lose this fight it would be time for him to consider if he wanted to continue as Ruthless Robbie or if it is instead time to transition into the next part of his life.
Another fire sign has appeared in Neil Magny, and along with having several fire placements throughout he also has some water and earth signs sprinkled in there. His Natal Mars in Leo will be affected by the Transiting Mars in Aries, tiring easily and scattering his energy rather than focusing it on a particular task. Additionally, we see the transiting Mars sextile his Natal Chiron in Gemini. This is of particular interest because Chiron in Gemini speaks to communication, and frustrations with relating to people. Chiron is the wounded healer we often look at this in terms of transformation, personal growth, and overcoming deep-rooted issues.
With this aspect in particular for Magny, we see him potentially receiving healing energy through meeting and interacting with someone, we see an ego check and a renewed capacity for self-acceptance acting at a deeper subconscious level. The transiting Mars is also conjunct his Natal Jupiter and that serves only to increase tenfold that same renewed optimism and clarity of purpose. No longer striving for ego gratification but a higher purpose.
My Pick: Honestly at first I was going to say Lawler, but honestly his energies are too scatter and I can say for certain that is my bias. Magny’s chart is chock-full of transformative energy and investment in the future, whereas Lawler’s seems to be more oriented towards restructuring. So in this case I’m picking Magny. (but part of me is still hoping for Lawler I won’t lie)
Alexa Grasso vs Ji Yeon Kim
Grasso’s chart has some concerning aspects of play tonight. The transiting Mars in Aries can give a sensitive, withdrawn, and distracted haze around her, which is only increased by it being trine her Natal Chiron implying that she will be working through deep-seated pain, dealing with ego and self-acceptance. This is offset only by it being inconjunct her own Natal Mars in Virgo in a week-long transit starting today giving her an energy boost and an increase in her ability to force her will and get what she wants.
With her natal Jupiter in Libra, she is likely to have a knack for showmanship, intensified by the confidence of her Leo Sun, this could prove to come back to bite her in the clinch. If she lets her optimism, confidence and any kind of lead take over her and underestimate her opponent she could quickly be brought down to reality.
Ji Yeon Kim
Ji Yeon Kim has not just a lot of air signs in her chart, but a lot of Libra specifically. Libra is one of those signs you don’t see very often in careers like MMA, but when you do they go hard. They seek spiritual growth vs material attachments, and much like the breeze flows she is likely to be instinctual in her movements, reactions, and decisions. The transiting Mars is square her Natal Chiron lending her enormous energy and endurance at her disposal, but that could be stifled by internalized fear of retaliation from unknown forces. Potentially her creativity, energy, and excitement have been suppressed but the stars are asking for her to live her truth. This transiting Mars in Aries is drawing out the physical manifestation of her true self, reminding her that career advancements are possible when you are your authentic being.
Moreover, the transiting Mars is in opposition to her Natal Sun in Libra, fire, and air signs working together and increasing the most prominent aspects of the other. Remember that fires need oxygen to blaze, and similarly, the impulsivity, tenacity, and combative energy of Aries is back drafted by the adaptable, optimistic, and harmony seeking Libra air, creating a dangerous amalgamation of dominance and free-flowing decision making that could prove a game-changer should she ever find herself in trouble with Grasso’s boxing.
My Pick: I’m going with Ji Yeon Kim. Honestly, all of these fights have potentials to be pick ems, Grasso and Kim is a great matchup and I think we’re going to see a memorable performance from both. But I side with my Libra sister!
Lasting Effects of Fight Night in Virgo Season
There is a lot of aspects related to Chiron tonight with these fighters, and being a more over-arching concept of personal transformation and growth I think these fights are going to mean a lot for these fighters in the long term. In some ways, these might be the fights that start the end of a career, or spark and give life to a new favorite among contenders. I honestly can’t pick a max bet on any of them, but if I had to, I’d say Ji Yeon Kim.
Of course, as always I’ll be putting all three in a parlay, but remember these are always for fun and to take into account all aspects that may affect your bet. I think we’re in for a night of great fights, and as always I wish you all luck and have a great fight night!
