Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two (Review)
Like part one, Batman’s voice acting and animation in Batman: The Long Halloween part two are pretty good. Except for a few 3D segments that look too robotic or unnatural.
Comic Adaptations
The minor changes Part One made from the comic book to the movie are more noticeable in part two and the ramifications of the changes made for this adaption.
This movie reminded me a lot of the adaption WB Animation produced of the Killing Joke comic book. For the most part, it adapts good portions of the comic book straight into the film, but you can tell what were changes or additions by just looking at the movie and its flow. Part two deviates too much from the source material, and part two suffers because of it.
Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two
One of the most significant changes and one of the biggest negative ones was seeing several villains attack parts of the city, which does not happen in the comic book. This change felt unnecessary and was only there to put some action on the movie.
One positive change and fixed a plot hole the comic book had was that Poison Ivy controlled Alfred when Falcone hired her to control Bruce Wayne. The movie, however, skips how Ivy ended up holding Wayne, and the motivations are just a throwaway line.
The most significant change the movie has from the comic book is the motivations of the Holiday killer and the mystery around it. Some additions to this mystery connect things, but it feels more like a last-minute thing.
Overall, the film was not a bad adaption. But the changes made are big negative to such an extraordinary Batman story. The movie should’ve been just a direct adaption from the comic. The changes were unnecessary to being with. I highly recommend reading the graphic novel this movie was based on first before watching this movie.
